Homeowners use up to 21% of energy used in the USA annually (Department of Energy, 2006) the median home incurs $1,767 for annual utility bills. Heat and air, plus hot water,  makeup 50-70% of the utiltiy costs incurred in homes (Environmental Protection Agency—www.energystar.gov). The Department of Energy concludes that costs for natural gas and electricity will keep escalating (Department of Energy, 2007), encouraging new home purchasers tor re-evaluate the energy performance of the of future home purchases and prefer the more energy efficient home that can be found by using spray foam insulation. US Governmental agencies are concentrating on energy savings in the residential market in hopes of lessening the dependency on foreign gas and oil. Building codes are incurring updates to make the consumer aware of energy performance in homes. Some states, such as Oregon, are requiring new homes must be fitted to be 15% more energy efficien from the 2004 International Building Codes. The Department of Energy is offering energy-initiatives to encouraging builders to construct residences with HERS (Home Energy Rating System) scores of 70 or better, which is much higher than the requirements set from the Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star for New Homes.

Green Earth Services works by of spraying polyurethane foam insulation for residential, commercial and industrial applications. This liquid polyurethane is first sprayed into cavities and begins to expand quickly, forming an airtight insulation barrier. Green Earth Services of Huntsville can provide various application systems for homes, busineses, roofing, and sound absorption at various costs and budgets.

For the greatest  R-value, closed-cell spray foam is the best option of all insulation materials  because it eliminates the air gaps and creates a sealed envelope. Closed-cell systems are efficient at controlling excess moisture, drafts, noise, insects and other environmental issues, with the added benefit of lowering energy consumption for the life of your home.

Green Earth Services reduces the amount of pollutants and allergens that enter the building structure. Rain water is eliminated from entering the attic, reducing the risk of fungal growth and damage to the building materials.

Savying with the Home Builder Tax Credit

On October 3, 2008, President Bush signed into law the “Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008.” This bill extended tax credits for energy efficient home improvements (windows, doors, roofs, spray foam insulation, HVAC, and non-solar water heaters). However, improvements made during 2008 are not eligible for a tax credit. Tax credits for these residential products, which had expired at the end of 2007, will now be available for improvements made during 2009.

Huntsville, Alabama Home builders may be eligible for a $2,000 tax credit for a new energy efficient home that achieves 50% energy savings for heating and cooling over the 2004 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) and supplements. At least 1/5 of the energy savings must come from building envelope improvements. Check with your local government agencies to see with rebates are being offered.
